The name of this place (karuvalur) is related to the history of avinashi-shiva temple,while saint sundaramoorthy nayanar was praying to lord shiva to give back the dead child alive .His prayer was immediately,clouds formed and there was a heavy rain fall, after which the tank was full and the crocodile gave back the child alive.The place where the clouds formed was named karuvalur after this incident.
The architecture of this temple is similar to the Nayakkar period architecture.
The special feature of this temple is that the statue of the mariamman is in standing position,
where as other mariamman statues are in sitting position. People in the temple area believe that the mariamman cure their chicken pox and all eye disease.
Located at 8 Kms from Avinashi on Mettupalayam - Erode Main Road.
